Off-grid solar installation with battery storage

Fleet & Crookham Athletics Club needed an off-grid solution to provide lighting for their twice-weekly training sessions. But space on the club’s cabin roof was in short supply – so we harnessed our ingenuity to deliver a system that would generate enough energy within the limited surface area.

Overview

One of our trusted partners, an electrical subcontractor, had been asked by Portakabin to provide an off-grid solution for Fleet & Crookham Athletics Club to charge their mobile floodlights and batteries. This project required us to deliver a system that would generate the required electricity on the roof of a small cabin.

The background

Fleet & Crookham Athletics Club needed to charge a series of batteries for their mobile floodlights. However, the site had limited space for installation – essentially a shipping container footprint – and required a fully off-grid solution. The club also needed the batteries charged throughout the winter, when solar power generation is at its lowest.

The installation

After meticulous analysis of the site’s constraints and energy requirements, and using some careful calculations, we designed a compact, high-efficiency off-grid solar system that charges the floodlight batteries, and powers the cabin lights and a small ventilation fan.

We ensured the system could store enough energy on sunny days to compensate for periods of low generation. This approach guaranteed the floodlight batteries would be fully charged and ready for use when needed.

Mounting: K2 D Dome mounting system bolted to the top of the Portakabin
Inverter: Growatt off-grid inverter
