The installation

We were personally approached by the client who was looking to have a ground-mounted solar installation at their country estate in the West Sussex village of Wisborough Green. The client was having a new three-phase electrical supply installed and wanted solar at the same time.

Challenges 

There were a couple of design constraints we had to bear in mind. Firstly, the estate’s helipad was positioned right next to the location chosen for the panels. This meant the panels needed to be thoroughly secured to prevent any movement during the helicopter’s take-off and landing. We used ground screws to hold the Solarport mounting system firmly in place, and we also put secondary clips on the panels to make sure they were secure. 

Secondly, the client was also due to host his daughter’s wedding at the property, which was part of the reason for the new electrical supply. We had a three-week window to get the solar panels installed before wedding preparations began. As always, swift teamwork ensured we completed the project on time.

We dug the trenches and routed the cables to a barn where the new electrical supply equipment was being installed. The cables were therefore not visible, creating a very neat, unintrusive installation. With 40 kW of battery storage as well as the solar array, the estate now has a smarter and more resilient energy setup that will support day-to-day use for years to come. The success of this installation led to us delivering the AJW commercial battery installation.
