Partridge Green, West Sussex

This Partridge Green cottage presented the perfect case for ground-mounted solar. With no gas supply and all heating, hot water, and appliances running on electricity, the client needed substantial generating capacity to meet their energy needs.

Installation

The system we installed delivers an impressive 17kW of power. The rural location provided ideal space for the installation, and we used RADIX ground screws for secure, minimal-impact foundations that avoid the disruption of traditional concrete footings. This system enables the household to generate a significant proportion of their electricity consumption from renewable energy.

The system was intentionally oversized to ensure year-round energy security. We installed the largest single-phase inverter available in the Sigenergy range (12kW), knowing that during peak summer generation, some solar energy will be ‘clipped’ – essentially wasted when the batteries are full and the inverter reaches maximum capacity. However, this design trade-off is deliberate. By sizing the system generously, we guarantee sufficient energy generation during the darker winter months when this all-electric property’s heating and hot water demands are highest. A smaller system might avoid summer clipping but would leave the household reliant on expensive grid electricity throughout winter. This approach prioritises year-round self-sufficiency.
