Solar Labourer

Contract: Part Time
Location: Various sites around West Sussex/Surrey/East Sussex
Salary: Dependent on experience

Job Summary:

The Solar Labourer supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of solar panel systems by performing general labour tasks. This role involves assisting with site preparation, transporting materials, assembling and positioning equipment, and ensuring that all tasks are performed safely and efficiently.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Preparation: Assist in preparing job sites for solar panel installations, including clearing debris, leveling surfaces, and setting up scaffolding or other necessary equipment.
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites, ensuring they are handled safely and efficiently.
  • Assembly and Installation: Assist with the assembly and installation of solar panels, mounting systems, and other components under the guidance of more experienced technicians and electricians.
  • Support Tasks: Provide general support to the installation team, including holding and securing materials, operating basic hand and power tools, and performing simple construction tasks as directed.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in inspecting installations to ensure they meet company standards and specifications.
  • Site Clean-Up: Maintain a clean and organized worksite by disposing of waste materials properly and ensuring tools and equipment are stored safely.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other team members to complete projects efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training sessions and workshops to improve skills and knowledge related to solar panel installations and general labor practices.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in construction, roofing, or a similar labour-intensive role is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools and the ability to operate them safely.
  • Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform strenuous tasks, including lifting heavy objects and working at heights.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work under the supervision of more experienced team members.
  • Commitment to safety and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily takes place outdoors on rooftops and construction sites in various weather conditions.
  • Regular travel to different job sites is required.
