Solar Panel Electrician

Contract: Part Time
Location: Various sites around West Sussex/Surrey/East Sussex
Salary: Dependent on experience

Job Summary:

The Solar Panel Electrician is responsible for the electrical aspects of solar panel installations, including wiring, connecting, and testing solar energy systems. The electrician ensures that all electrical components are installed safely and meet industry standards and regulations, contributing to the efficient and reliable operation of solar energy systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Installation:Install, wire, and connect solar panel systems, including inverters, controllers, and battery storage, ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards.
  • System Testing and Commissioning:Conduct testing and commissioning of solar panel systems to verify proper operation and performance, including voltage and current measurements.
  • Troubleshooting and Repairs:Diagnose and repair electrical issues in solar panel systems, including faulty wiring, inverter malfunctions, and connectivity problems.
  • Safety Compliance:Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and lockout/tagout procedures, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Documentation:Maintain accurate records of electrical installations, tests, maintenance, and repairs, including diagrams, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Quality Assurance:Inspect and verify the quality of electrical installations to ensure they meet company standards and customer expectations.
  • Customer Interaction:Communicate effectively with customers to explain the electrical aspects of solar installations, answer questions, and provide post-installation support.
  • Team Collaboration:Work collaboratively with other team members, including roof technicians, engineers, and project managers, to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Training and Development:Stay current with industry trends, technology advancements, and best practices in solar electrical systems through ongoing training and professional development.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as an electrician, preferably with experience in solar panel installations or renewable energy systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and components used in solar energy installations.
  • Familiarity with national and local electrical codes and standards, including BS7671
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical plans, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions.
  • Minimum electrical improver status, holding blue card IET or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • GCSEs or equivalent; vocational training or technical certification is a plus.
  • ECS Card

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily takes place on rooftops and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Regular travel to different job sites is required.
